...and after accepting the challenge of the blank sheet and making that first mark it is difficult to know what the final result will be.
To say that the characters 'come to life' is such a cliché, but in it lies a truth. As a drawing unfolds, the path becomes clearer and in the final stages of drawing, one is simply reporting a reality, and sometimes, a truth.

But, I suppose, like all art, it is just marks on paper unless viewed. Just as poetry can be vague and benefit from the listeners' imagination, so drawings can have a general aspect which allows the viewer to join in and give the work a meaning.
